(Rhamnus purshiana)

The bark contains hydroanthracene glycosides, which stimulate peristalsis of rhythmic contraction of the intestinal musculature, as well as the resin emodin, which causes smooth muscle cells to contract vigorously. The result is a powerful stimulant laxative.

Should not be used for more than 7 days a time and ought to be taken with the guidance of an herbalist or physician.
