(Cynara scolymus)

Artichoke is widely used for Liver disorders, high cholesterol and fat malabsorption due to diseases of the pancreas, gallbladder or bile duct. Artichokes have among the highest antioxidant contents of vegetables, and increase “good” HDL cholesterol while lowering the “bad” LDL. They also contain the beneficial plant phenols apigenin and luteolin, and serve as a probiotic by promoting the growth of the useful species of bifidobacteria.
