There is no doubt that South Africans love their pets with over 60% of the population being pet owners. But do we know enough to ensure their well-being and happiness.
Pets have taken on more prominent roles in the later years from companions, to guide dogs to protectors to health diagnosis and have played a major role in teaching us unconditional love no matter what circumstances they find themselves in. They assist us in leading more balanced, stress-free vibrantly healthy lives even if we are not aware of their important roles. But what do they ask in return from us?
Just like the human race animals are falling prey to disease and illness as well, despite all our best intentions. Remember that our pets age much quicker than us- 7 of their years to 1 of ours. The choices we make on their behalf reveal themselves much quicker than they do in humans. Luckily the reversal of conditions also applies and they can bounce back just as quickly.
We must realize that our pets are totally dependent on us for all their needs in health, nutrition, exercise and their whole well being. We have absolute control so we have to be make sound choice in all areas as responsible Pet Owners… Parents.
Our pets nutrition is our total responsibility and we determine the quality and the quantity. They need us to make the best choices for them. If we take a moment to reflect back we ourselves have fallen prey to commercial non nutritional fast foods and by so doing have pulled our beloved pets into the same lifestyle. Our Pets have become junk eaters for our convenience and in most cases have received little in the way of nutrional intake because of this.
IT IS SO IMPORTANT THAT WE AS ‘PET PARENTS” TAKE BACK OUR HEALTH AND THEIR HEALTH!
If we truly look into the products we use to so-called feed our pets we will be astonished at the poor quality and disgusting ingredients they contain. Real Food :- The main source of protein for your pet should be real meat sources, should contain a source of vegetables, and as for ourselves preferably organic. Carbohydrates should be avoided as this is a sure recipe for developing chronic illness in pets. The most important point to get to grips with is the very dangerous and dark side of what processed dry and tin food manufacturers call “rendered protein meat and bone meal”. This is all parts of animals that cannot be consumed by humans including road kill boiled into a disgusting sludge. We feed this to our pets thinking that the high quality packaging shows the best or the price of a balanced diet as advertised is the best! Avoid these products like the plaque. Avoid colourants, preservatives just like you would for your own nutritional needs.
Jerky/ Biltong products as they are mostly rancid meats filled with salts and often from very suspect origins.
Dog Biscuits and dry pellets commercially bought often contain ingredients that cause many illness in your pets
Real Meat and protein treats
Fruits : Like apples/ blueberries and bananas
Veggies like carrots/celery/greenbeans
Prepare raw or slightly blanched homemade pet food with high quality ingredients like you would for yourself.
Rotate the protein your feed your pets on a weekly basis to ensure a balanced diet.

LIVING WATER FOR PETS
As important as water is to us so is it to our pets. If we are feeding our pets dry processed foods we will probably have a highly dehydrated pet, as the water content in the pets body will be used extensively to process the dried food.
In our Pet Detox program we suggest using parsley water for your pets drink water. This is a magnificent kidney flusher and your pets will love it . Coats will be shiny and healthy. Most pet owners who have tried this find that their pets love the parsley water so much they just keep them on it. So easy to introduce. Make a big pot of parsley tea from fresh parsley steep it in boiling water. Once cooled freeze in ice trays. Once a day pop a ice cube into your pets drinking bowls and viola! Always ensure your pet has good quality fresh water available NOT TAP water because of the toxins and metals it contains. Metal toxicity is just a rife in the animal kingdom because the bowls we use are either made from toxic plastic or metals. Change to stainless steel for the best results.
We need to feed our pets a balanced diet and keep the treats to a minimum. Just like us many pets are now struggling with over weight issues, bowel issues, GI tract infections, diabetes, kidney ailments and heart conditions just to mention a few. Processed food and tin foods contain a high level of carbohydrates that are the main cause of pet obesity and in most cases lead to chronic illnesses. Diet plays the most pivotal role in controlling weight and ensuring health for our pets.
When it comes to detoxing our pets require the same attention as we do. Detoxing every 6 months is very important practice to ensure our pets are healthy and strong. The pet detoxes we find on the markets are aligned to the same issues we as humans are facing with dangerous side effects. Always use natural remedies to detox your pets for optimal health.
Pets have many of the same parasites that we get, including Ascaris (common roundworm), hookworm, Trichinella, Strongyloides, heartworm and a variety of tapeworms. Every pet living in your home should be de-parasitized and maintained on a parasite program. Monthly trips to your vet are not sufficient.Your pet is part of your family and should be kept as sweet and clean and healthy as yourself. This is not difficult to achieve. Here is the recipe:
PET PARASITE PROGRAM
1. Parsley water: cook a big bunch of fresh parsley in a litre of water for 3 minutes. Throw away the parsley. After cooling, you may freeze most of it in several ice trays. Put 1 ice cube of parsley water in the pet’s water bowel per day. You don’t have to watch it go down; whatever amount is ingested is satisfactory.
All dosages are based on a 10 pound (5 kilo) cat or dog. Double them for a 20 pound (9Kg) pet, and so forth.
Pets are so full of parasites, you must be quite careful not to de-parasitize too quickly. The purpose of the parsley water is to keep the kidneys flowing well so dead parasite refuse is eliminated promptly. They get quite fond of their parsley water. Perhaps they can sense the benefit it brings them. Do this for a week before starting the Black Walnut Hull Tincture.
2. Black Walnut Hull Tincture (regular strength): 1 drop on the food. Don’t force them to eat it. Count carefully. Treat cats only twice a week. Treat dogs daily, for instance a 30 pound (13.6Kg) dog would get 3 drops per day (but work up to it, increasing one drop per day). If your pet vomits or has diarrhoea, you may expect to see worms. This is extremely infectious and hazardous. Never let a child clean up a pet mess. Begin by pouring a mixture of salt and Lugol’s Iodine on the mess and letting it stand for 5 minutes before cleaning it up. Clean up outdoor messes the same way. Finally, clean your hands with skin sanitizer. Be careful to keep all alcohol out of sight of children; don’t rely on discipline for this.
Start the wormwood a week later.
3. Wormwood capsules: (200-300 mg wormwood per capsule) Open a capsule and put the smallest pinch possible on their dry food. Do this for a week before starting the cloves.
4. Cloves: put the smallest pinch possible on their dry food. Also, notice how peppy and happy they become.
Go slowly so the pet can learn to eat all of it. To repeat:
• Week 1: parsley water.
• Week 2: parsley water and black walnut.
• Week 3: parsley water, black walnut, and wormwood.
Week 4: parsley water, black walnut, wormwood, and cloves
Pets should not stroll on counters or table. They should eat out of their own dishes, not yours. They should not sleep on your bed. The bedroom should be off limits to pets. Don’t kiss your pets. Wash your hands after playing with your pet. NEVER, NEVER share food with your pet. Don’t keep a cat box in the house; install a cat door. Wear a dust-mask when you change the cat box. If you have a sandbox for the children, buy new sand from a lumber yard and keep it covered. Don’t eat in a restaurant where they sweep the carpet while you are eating (the dust has parasite eggs tracked in from outside). Never let a child crawl on the sidewalk or the floor of a public building. Wash children’s hands before eating. Eat “finger” foods with a fork. If feasible, leave shoes at the door.
Solvents are just as bad for your pet as for you. Most flavoured pet foods are polluted with solvents such as carbon tetrachloride, benzene, isopropyl alcohol, wood alcohol, etc. Don’t buy flavoured pet food. Pets add a great deal too human lives. Get rid of the parasites, not the pets, unless you are ill and then board your pets.
